Viking seas
The vikings had an important role to play on the seas. They usually traveled to unknown shores to pillage and steal from whoever they saw in sight. They didnt travel so much exceot for the northern end of europe including Sweden, England, France, Norway, Denmark, ect.
The most common ship was the viking longship which was used to travel far distances and bringing large armies to any shores. The often had metal dragon carvings in the front to be used for ramming enemy ships or just as an iconic symbol to strike fear into their enemies. The shields on the sides were used mainly to protect from arrows or spears being shot or hurled towards them. Then they would leave small gaps to be able to shoot arrows back at the enemy army. They would train their soldiers to row the massive long ship to the sound of drums or to a row captain screaming orders from the stern of the ship.
The second kind of ship was used for short distances but was very quiet. Sometimes to be used for scouting missions and stealth trips through enemy lines. They were also very fast for the big sails that would catch lots of wind and fill the sail with no spillage. They usually had 2 men rowing for times when the wind was down or just for the times when you needed to go extremely fast.
